Detect Sub-Acute Ruminal Acidosis
Sub-Acute Ruminal Acidosis (SARA) usually causes a decrease in milk fat production. A drop in fat content in a large number of cows in a group, usually points to a problem with their feeding ration preparation, such as:
-
Over-mixing or over-processing of the TMR that reduces particle size and eNDF content.
-
Minimized separation of feed ingredients during TMR mixing and delivery.
-
When feeding a TMR, monitor and minimize sorting in the feed bunk.
-
Inadequate length of cut for forages and silage.
A red SARA Suspicion – Session alert is displayed when:
-
More than 10% of cows experience a drop in fat %.
-
The fat/protein ratio for the group drops to <1.0.
To view Nutritional Monitoring Report – by Session:

In the Groups Monitoring screen, under the SARA Suspicion – Session indicator click
.
The Nutrition Monitoring Report by Session opens.
Values that are not within the predefined threshold appear in Red.
